Abingdon Main Street is a non-profit organization with a volunteer Board of Directors, volunteer work teams and one paid staff person. We focus on making our downtown district a place where people want to shop, dine, stay and play. We plan events and activities to draw locals and visitors to downtown and are proud to support our locally-owned businesses. This is our vision for the Main Street district:
“Downtown Abingdon, located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, will be an authentic, walkable, and livable community that will draw residents and visitors alike. By preserving and promoting our distinctive historic, cultural and recreational assets, we will sustain our economic vitality, quality of life, and attractiveness as a regional destination.”
Abingdon Main Street received designation as a Virginia Main Street community in 2007 and is accredited as a National Main Street program.
